Five Shocking Things in the Bible

Such as the love of God, eternal life, heaven etc.
However, the Bible is also a book filled with horrors.
Sodom and Gomorrah, Satan, death, hell.
To me, the greatest horror in the Bible is hell.
Perhaps you have family members, or co-workers, or friends who are on their way to hell. Tonight I would like to look at five shocking things in the Bible.

1. THERE IS A PLACE CALLED HELL.
A. A place of consciousness. Luke 16:23-24
B. A place of torment. Luke 16:23-24; Luke 16:28
C. A place of darkness. Matthew 8:12
D. A place of eternal separation. 2 Thessalonians 1:9
E. A place of memory and regret. Luke 16:27-28
F. A place of intense misery. Matthew 13:42

II. A GREAT POPULATION IN HELL.
A. More in hell than in heaven. Isaiah 5:14
B. In the days of Noah, there were only 8 saved
out of the entire world’s population.
In Sodom, there were only 3 spared
out of the city.
C. There are more in heathen lands than in so called Christian countries.
I have heard that the ratio is 40 to 1.

III. THERE IS A PARADOX IN HELL.
A. Many who expect to make it to heaven will actually wind up in hell. James 1:26

B. The rich man didn’t believe in hell.
1. Many church members don’t believe in hell.
2. Remember, you can’t always judge a book by its cover, but you can always tell a tree by its fruit.
C. Even good moral people who are unsaved will go to hell. Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23
D. Perhaps the most horrible words that will ever fall on the ears of a human are those recorded in
Luke 16:23.

IV. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH HELL.
A. The problem is that a family member could be heading there at this moment.
B. Jesus could return today. Matthew 24:44.
C. A family member or a good friend could die today. James 4:14
D. Do not take any chances with your family or friends, tell them today about Jesus.

V. HELL IS ETERNAL.
A. No escape, no pardon and no death.
There will come a day when they will be released from hell, but what awaits them is worse than hell. (Lake of fire)
B. The lost will suffer for all eternity while the redeemed enjoy the wonders and blessings of heaven for all eternity.
